The Italian definition, that is perfectly adapted for he who wants to express the concept of Building Automation is INTELLIGENT BUILDING.
It identifies those buildings that have been designed and constructed, in a way that allows a smooth integrated management together with the computerisation of the technological plants (air-conditioning, water distribution, gas and energy, security systems) The inclusion of Information networks and of Communication networks, improve management flexibility, comfort, security, energy saving in the building and improve the quality of living and working inside buildings.
The advantages that come from this are many:

•To improve the quality of life (first of all for man, but not only) among this group, first come minors, the elderly and disabled people.
• To improve security in every way, which means measuring, reducing and if possible eliminating dangerous effects that can come from the tools and technology that we use.
• Energy saving – starting with the reduction of waste and continuing with the reduction of consumption.
• Simplifying the design, installation, servicing and use of technology, therefore reducing costs even more.
• Transforming old working environments and old systems according to the new vision of looking to the future.

The design phase is always very important: “Intelligent” components added to a building must not be thought up as a system which is a separate issue, but they must be housed together with all the engineering plant being constructive and structural within the organisation of the space. So a design phase is outlined, which consists of various specialists working together, with the task of interacting and uniting their reciprocal knowledge, until they reach a high level of service, for the working of every single system housed in a building.
Building automation has been consolidated for many years, and because of this, a common opinion is that products in this sector that have been adapted to a smaller scale, can be used in domotics.
